Gert Robijns
The village 2010

The village was a temporary sculpture based on the parish house and the church of Gotem, the native village of Gert Robijns. The sculpture was a white, 75% scale-model of the original buildings and Robijns placed it in an open space 10 km away, at the head of the runway of a military airfield in Sint- Truiden. It consisted of a steel skeleton structure anchored to the runway, on which the wooden silhouette of the village was erected. In the second phase, the entire structure was painted white, due to which the scale model clearly emerged as a sculpture in the landscape.

By turning things around, relocating them, and changing perspectives, Robijns has been building a Reset project in South Limburg (Belgium) since 2010. It started with the relocation of his birthplace Gotem (Tongeren - Borgloon) into a white scale model 10 km away in 2010. Five years later, he had his grandparents' house demolished and moved it as a sculpture by 10 cm. The residential house and the accompanying stables disappeared and made way for a new architecture with space for artists in residence.
